Drew Barrymore's Surprising Family Bonding Ritual: Trips to the Gas Station

As of November 13th, 2025, actress Drew Barrymore is opening up about one of her daughters' favorite family activities - trips to the gas station. Barrymore, who shares 13-year-old Olive and 11-year-old Frankie with ex-husband Will Kopelman, says her California-based family loves to "pile in the minivan all the time" and head to the local gas station to pick up snacks.

"I know this is going to sound so weird, but I'm from California, so we're big drivers," Barrymore explains. "And we just kind of drive places. In that magical box, I feel like we just...we listen to music all the time. We're constantly turning each other on to new songs."

Beyond their gas station adventures, Barrymore also tries to take her girls to concerts and movies to spend quality one-on-one time. "I try to take them sometimes to concerts. I love taking them to the movies. Individual time with them is really important," she shares.

Barrymore's open approach to parenting extends beyond just fun activities. She's also candid about dealing with burnout and the importance of modeling good behavior for her daughters. The proud mom says she reminds her kids that "the more you work on yourself, the happier you're going to be, the more your friendships will thrive."
