The character's Mandarin transliteration, "mǎ ěr fú," translates to "horse fortune," a deeply auspicious phrase associated with Lunar New Year celebrations. This unique wordplay has fueled a widespread phenomenon across Chinese social media platforms.

Fans have generated a significant amount of content, including memes, fan art, and themed decorations. Images of Malfoy, portrayed by actor Tom Felton, have been featured on Lunar New Year banners and decorations in public spaces like shopping malls. Felton himself acknowledged the trend by resharing a photo of his face on a banner, captioned with "Magical awakening that attracts abundant wealth."
