Actress Dove Cameron has detailed the profound personal tragedies that shaped her life, speaking openly on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast. At just eight years old, Cameron experienced the murder of her childhood best friend, Hayley Byrne, and Hayley's sister by their father. This harrowing event, which occurred in 2004 in Edmonds, Washington, deeply disturbed Cameron and impacted her perception of the world.
Her struggles continued as her own father, Philip Alan Hosterman, battled depression and bipolar disorder. Cameron's parents divorced when she was 14, and she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Tragically, her father died by suicide just months after she moved. This loss led to severe panic attacks while she was filming the Disney Channel show 'Liv and Maddie,' which premiered in 2013.
Cameron also spoke about the death of her 'Descendants' co-star Cameron Boyce in 2019, who passed away at age 20 due to a seizure. She described Boyce as a supportive friend who helped her through difficult times. These cumulative losses have contributed to her ongoing 'phone anxiety,' as three major personal losses were communicated to her via phone calls.
