- The case uncovers a pattern of deception played on empathy.
- A new docuseries explores the motivations behind the crimes.

A compelling new Canadian docuseries, "Doula - A True Crime," is set to premiere on CBC on October 7, offering an in-depth look at the unusual criminal case involving Kaitlyn Braun.
Braun, at 24, reached out to more than 40 doulas with a fabricated story of a third-trimester stillborn child resulting from sexual assault. This deception unraveled over nine months, from June 2022 to February 2023.
Doulas, who had provided pro bono services, began questioning Braun's narrative. After connecting with others who had similar experiences, they initiated a campaign to alert authorities, fueled by a viral TikTok counter-offensive.
The docuseries features Braun's first interview, providing insight into her actions and motivations. Director Nathalie Bibeau aimed to understand the 'why' behind the crimes, noting how Braun's deception exploited empathy.
International distribution rights have been acquired by Boat Rocker Studios, with the series launching at MIPCOM Cannes. The production seeks to present a nuanced and human perspective, moving beyond the sensationalist reporting that initially surrounded the case.
