Douglas Henshall, a familiar face from Shetland, is set to star in a new television adaptation of Graham Norton's bestselling 2023 novel, Forever Home. This six-part drama promises a darkly emotional exploration of marriage, family dynamics, and the profound connection between a mother and her children.
The series centers on Carol Crottie, the second wife of an aging partner, Robert Barrie, whose dementia is progressing. As Robert's condition worsens, Carol begins to question the circumstances surrounding his first wife's departure two decades prior. This mystery is further complicated by Robert's anxiety over a hidden basement, leading Carol and her mother to investigate.
Graham Norton, who also serves as an executive producer, described the novel as a "funny, twisted, 'dark-romp' full of farcical scenes." The adaptation features a cast including Amy Nuttall as Carol, Denise Welch as her mother Moira, and Henshall as Robert.
The ensemble cast also includes Lewis Cope, Jenny Walser, Shane Zaza, and Kevin Whately. While the series is confirmed to be in production, Channel 5 has not yet announced a specific release date for Forever Home.
