Donny Osmond Admits "Silly" Comedy on His Variety Show

Donny Osmond recently reflected on his and his sister Marie's popular 1970s variety show, describing its comedic elements as "kind of silly." He explained that neither he nor Marie were comedians, which led to some segments feeling less polished. The show, inspired by Sonny & Cher, premiered on January 23, 1976, and aired on ABC until May 1979. Osmond highlighted that the show's "organic" and "real" nature contributed to its enduring appeal, despite some critics pointing to its "goody-goody factor."

Osmond, now 68, continues to perform a solo residency in Las Vegas. His show traverses his entire career, and he shared that singing certain songs during his performances, like "In My Life," brings back emotional memories of the "Donny & Marie" show. He fondly remembers seeing footage from their time together, stating it still makes him emotional half a century later. He and Marie last performed together in 2019 following an 11-year residency, and he indicated that another reunion concert is unlikely due to extensive rehearsal demands.
