Summary
- Don DeLillo's early, unpublished novel 'Amazons' is being reissued.
- The book chronicles a female hockey player's career and romantic life.
- The reprint comes more than 40 years after its initial obscure release.

Don DeLillo's controversial 1980 novel, "Amazons," is slated for a reprint on November 17, just before his 90th birthday. This previously obscure work, attributed to a pseudonym, chronicles the groundbreaking career and romantic entanglements of the first female professional hockey player.
Initially disowned by DeLillo and omitted from his bibliographies, "Amazons" is now being reissued by Scribner. The publisher was persuaded after a New York Times article highlighted the novel's unexpected role as a precursor to contemporary hockey erotica, a genre that gained mainstream attention recently.
The new edition retains its original premise, presenting "Amazons" as a memoir by fictional player Cleo Birdwell. This marks a significant shift, as DeLillo now acknowledges the work more than four decades after its quiet debut and subsequent disappearance from print.
