Dolly Parton's Surprising Dance Chart Domination

Dolly Parton, celebrated for her unparalleled country music career, also achieved significant success on Billboard's dance charts. While charting over 100 hits and earning 25 No. 1s in country music, Parton explored diverse genres throughout her career. Her initial foray into dance music began with the 1978 disco-influenced album 'Heartbreaker,' which spawned her first dance hit.

Parton continued to make appearances on the Dance Club Songs chart with entries like '9 to 5' in 1981 and 'Potential New Boyfriend' in 1983. Her genre-bending explorations extended to a 1997 cover of 'Peace Train' and a 2020 collaboration, 'Faith,' with Galantis.

This 2019 collaboration, 'Faith,' a dance reworking of John Hiatt's song, finally earned Parton a No. 1 on a dance chart, topping Dance Airplay. She expressed a desire to release uplifting music, stating, "This world is just so dark and ugly and awful... so I'm going to make it my business to try to do songs that are more uplifting." Her 2023 album 'Rockstar' further demonstrated her versatility, topping the Top Rock Albums chart and becoming her highest-charted entry on the Billboard 200.

Throughout her career, Parton topped five of Billboard's published radio charts, including Dance Airplay, Adult Contemporary, and Country Airplay. Her 49th studio release, 'Rockstar,' featured collaborations with rock legends and secured her a No. 1 on a rock chart, cementing her legacy as a truly versatile artist.
