California Declares Sept. 25 Dolly Parton Day Annually

California has become the first state to officially declare September 25th as Dolly Parton Day. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill, establishing an annual recognition for the beloved entertainer and humanitarian. The day celebrates Parton's career and her widespread influence, particularly her commitment to literacy.

Parton's Imagination Library initiative, launched in 1995, is a key focus of these celebrations. This program has successfully distributed over 330 million free books to children globally. The designation of Dolly Parton Day encourages a spirit of kindness, generosity, and joy.

Beyond California, numerous cities and local governments are joining the observance. Municipalities such as Nashville, Tennessee, and Portland, Oregon, along with Hays and Montgomery Counties in Texas, have proclaimed September 25th as Dolly Parton Day or Dolly Parton Appreciation Day. Manhattan Borough also recognized the occasion.

Celebrations are planned nationwide. Nashville will feature pink lights and special events, with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood donating proceeds from their establishment to the Nashville Public Library and Imagination Library. San Francisco will host a daytime music event, and New Orleans will feature a parade through the French Quarter.
