In a special event held yesterday at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Nike unveiled the latest addition to its Doernbecher Freestyle collection: the Air Jordan 17. This year's design was created by patient Zach Rumbaugh, who drew inspiration from his passion for cars and cats.
The sneaker's iridescent upper is a nod to custom car wraps, while a cat logo at the toe celebrates Rumbaugh's affinity for felines. Additionally, the number 38 is featured on the lace lock and hang tag, representing the number of days the patient spent at the Doernbecher hospital. The design also includes a glow-in-the-dark element on the outsoles, adding a unique touch to the already eye-catching sneaker.
Rumbaugh's Air Jordan 17, along with the rest of this year's Doernbecher collection, was first made available for auction last night in Portland. The designs will then launch on the SNKRS platform later this winter, giving sneaker enthusiasts and supporters of the Doernbecher Children's Hospital the opportunity to own a piece of this special collaboration.
