Surgeon-Director Operates on Film Set

Filmmaker Roshan Sethi, who also practices as a radiation oncologist, is preparing for the premiere of his new film, "The Surgeon." Sethi splits his time between his medical duties at Mass General Brigham and his filmmaking career, recently finishing the script for "The Surgeon" in just ten days.

The film features Michelle Yeoh as a retired surgeon who is kidnapped and compelled to operate under duress. Sethi leverages his extensive medical knowledge to create a thriller where surgical tools replace traditional weaponry, detailing anatomical procedures. He aims to avoid boredom by making the film as realistic and intense as possible, drawing inspiration from Michael Crichton.

Michelle Yeoh sought a "different kind of action film" and found it in Sethi's script, appreciating its unique blend of badassery and fun. She underwent training at the Royal College of Surgeons to authentically portray her role. "The Surgeon" was independently produced to maintain its originality and unusual approach to action, shot in just 26 days.

The movie, set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 12, promises to be an engaging experience by explaining the anatomy and science behind the action, minimizing audience disbelief. Sethi even insisted on including "M.D." after his name in the credits, a notable detail for a genre film.
