The visual effects company DNEG has been brought on board Francesco Lucente's fantasy adventure "Sinbad" as a co-financier and producer. This collaboration was announced ahead of the Tokyo International Film Festival's TIFFCOM market.
Pre-production for the new screen version of the classic sailor tale is scheduled to commence in early 2027, with a targeted delivery date in March 2029. Cappu Films, based in Hong Kong, is responsible for handling sales in a broad range of territories.
Director Francesco Lucente stated his intention to bring the story to life with unparalleled scale and wonder, featuring breathtaking worlds and extraordinary creatures. He emphasized the film's deep human heart and expressed confidence in DNEG's creative contributions and Cappu Films' international network.
Cappu Films' sales rights encompass territories in Asia, Europe, the CIS, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Africa. This includes key markets such as China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, German-speaking Europe, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.
The film reunites Cappu Films with Lucente, following their previous collaboration on "Starbright." Janice Woo of Cappu Films highlighted their excitement for a project of this magnitude and DNEG's significant involvement in a fantasy adventure. Conversations with buyers are ongoing since the project's initial presentation at the Busan market.
DNEG is renowned for its Oscar-winning visual effects work on films like "Inception," "Interstellar," "Blade Runner 2049," and the "Dune" franchise. Lucente's directorial credits also include the drama "Badland" and the fantasy feature "Starbright."
