In a departure from the usual family-friendly Diwali releases, the upcoming film Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is set to make waves with its bold and intense love story. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the movie has been certified 'A' by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making it the first Diwali release in 22 years to receive this adult-only rating.
The CBFC has requested several modifications to the film, including replacing the word 'Raavan' with 'villain' and 'maal' with 'ladki'. A 2-minute 12-second shot was also asked to be modified, though the details of the scene are not specified. Additionally, the CBFC's Examining Committee requested the removal of all dialogue belonging to the epic Ramayana.
Despite the 'A' rating, the film's producers are confident that it will find success at the box office, much like recent adult-rated hits such as Animal (2023) and Coolie (2025). The length of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 140.17 minutes, or 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Interestingly, this is not the first time a Diwali release has received an 'A' rating. In 2003, four films were released during the festival week, with the last two - Sssshhh and Inteha - also receiving the adults-only certification. In the years prior, films like Annarth (2002) and Aalavandhan (2001) had also been given the 'A' rating for Diwali releases.
