Summary
- New training initiative focuses on ethnic minority hair and makeup.
- Prime Video, Sky, and British broadcasters back the program.
- 71% of ethnic minority actors report unmet hair/makeup needs.

An initiative supported by Prime Video, Sky, and several British broadcasters has been launched to train hair and makeup professionals specializing in textured hair and deeper skin tones. This program, called the Textured Hair & Make-up for Deep Skin-Tones Accelerator, is run by Dandi, an offshoot of TriForce Creative Network. It aims to equip emerging talent and existing professionals with the skills needed to cater to a diverse cast.
The training will recruit 10 participants for each course, divided into three streams: Elevate, Evolve, and Equip. These streams are designed for new talent, mid-career professionals, and those seeking to upskill. The curriculum includes in-person and online sessions, industry showcases, and paid placements, with Dandi providing support for two years post-completion.
This effort directly addresses a significant industry gap, as research found 71% of actors from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds report that hair and makeup departments are ill-equipped to meet their needs. This lack of provision impacts actor well-being and production authenticity. The initiative is further supported by Amazon's Prime Video Pathway and Screen Alliance North.
