Snow White's Woke Rebrand Flops: $170M Loss
16 Feb
Summary
- The film suffered a staggering $170 million loss for Disney.
- Production costs for the remake reached $336.5 million.
- It is now among Disney's lowest-grossing live-action remakes.

Disney's recent live-action adaptation of "Snow White" has incurred a substantial financial deficit, reportedly costing the company $170 million. The film's production budget alone amounted to a significant $336.5 million.
Despite the high investment, "Snow White" garnered only $87.3 million during its opening weekend in May 2025, with a total worldwide gross of $205.7 million. This performance positions it as the fifth-lowest grossing among Disney's 21 live-action remakes.
Adding to its challenges, the film faced public criticism for its "progressive" rebrand. Lead actress Rachel Zegler described Prince Charming as a 'stalker' and the original animated film as 'dated.' Critic Peter Dinklage also voiced concerns about the portrayal of the seven dwarfs.
Further controversy arose from Zegler's social media posts, including political statements that drew significant attention. The trailer, featuring computer-generated dwarfs, also received widespread dislike on YouTube.
The film's high costs were disclosed due to UK local laws mandating expenditure reporting for companies seeking reimbursements. Disney received a $64.9 million reimbursement, reducing the net cost to $271.6 million, yet the box office revenue still resulted in a substantial loss.
