The planned live-action "Robin Hood" remake by Disney has been officially canceled. After six years with no updates, director Carlos López Estrada confirmed the project's demise during a recent Reddit AMA. Estrada shared his disappointment, stating that "it's dead, sadly," and that the team had developed some "truly extraordinary music" for the film.
Originally announced in 2020, the project was intended as a CGI remake, similar to Disney's approach with "The Lion King." Kari Granlund, who worked on the "Lady and the Tramp" remake, was slated to write it, with a producer from "Dumbo" attached. The lack of casting news over the years had hinted at the project's uncertain future.
Despite the cancellation, Estrada expressed a desire to still bring his take on the story to life. He mentioned daydreaming about pursuing an independent version, potentially featuring different characters and a legally distinct animal protagonist.
