20 Jun
Summary
- A new outdoor recreation area called The Wetlands will open in 2027.
- The Wetlands will feature a pool complex inspired by Pocahontas.
- The area replaces Disney's former River Country water park.
Disney World is replacing its first water park, River Country, with a new "outdoor recreation area" called The Wetlands. Scheduled to open in the summer of 2027, The Wetlands will be adjacent to the forthcoming Lakeshore Lodge resort. This nature-themed Disney Vacation Club hotel will surround guests with the beauty of Bay Lake.
The Wetlands recreation area draws inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Pocahontas," particularly the song "Colors of the Wind." Guests can anticipate playful wet and dry areas, a lazy river named Daydream River, and a Lakeside Lagoon pool complete with a spiral waterslide. Another leisure pool, Perspective Pond, will offer whirlpool spa amenities and views of Magic Kingdom's fireworks.
The new Lakeshore Lodge will feature 967 rooms, including waterfront Lake Houses. While designed as a Disney Vacation Club property, it will be open to all guests. The resort will offer complimentary transportation across Disney World, situated just a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom.
