Disney has debuted its new short-form series, "Locker Diaries," embracing the growing trend of micro-dramas. The 11-part series features familiar characters from franchises such as Zombies, Descendants, and Phineas & Ferb, offering bite-size adventures tailored for vertical viewing. These installments blend comedy, drama, and thrills, all set within school hallways and told through the lens of open locker doors.
The first two episodes, drawing from the Zombies universe and featuring cast members from "Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires," are currently streaming on Disney+ and the Disney Channel's YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok channels. New episodes will be released every Saturday through mid-April and will also air on the Disney Channel next month.
This move by Disney signifies a broader industry shift towards micro-dramas, a booming medium projected to surpass $9.4 billion in China last year. Disney+ aims to increase daily user engagement by integrating vertical video natively into its platform, ensuring a cohesive experience rather than a disjointed one.
