25 Mar
Summary
- Disney+ plans increased European production for scripted and non-scripted content.
- New projects include a Duffy documentary and a Turkish vampire comedy.
- Disney+ reassesses strategy in Germany, pausing planned productions.

Disney+ is intensifying its production efforts throughout Europe, planning a substantial increase in both scripted and non-scripted commissions. The streamer's content head for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa revealed these plans at the Series Mania TV festival.
Upcoming projects highlight the diverse range of new content. These include a feature documentary from Rare TV and Stellify Media detailing the public story of Welsh singer Duffy, who previously spoke of an abduction and assault. Italy will host a classic whodunit, 'Murder on Lake Garda,' produced by Fremantle's The Apartment.
Further diversifying its European slate, Disney+ is producing a supernatural comedy from Turkey titled 'The Strange Story of Gustav Maier.' This series features a 350-year-old virgin vampire falling for a human. In Spain, a documentary series named 'Abandoned' will investigate the real-life story of three children found abandoned at a train station.
Notably absent from the announced commissioning list is Germany, Europe's largest TV market. Disney+ has placed multiple planned productions on hold in the country as it reviews its local strategy.
