A stage musical adaptation of the 1987 film "Dirty Dancing" will arrive on Broadway next February, a year before the film's 40th anniversary. This new iteration is based on an overhauled production that has been touring North America.
The musical, originally conceived by screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein, has been around for over two decades. While earlier versions received mixed critical reviews, audiences remained engaged due to nostalgia for the film.
Last year, the show underwent significant revisions with a new director and designers, leading to improved critical reception. This revitalized production will begin performances at the Lena Horne Theater on February 12 and is scheduled to run until September 5, before continuing its tour to other cities.
Lonny Price, who has a personal connection to the film, serves as the new director. The cast will comprise members from the current touring company, with Path Entertainment Group, Lionsgate, and LD Entertainment producing.
