Dipika Defends Ranbir: 'Animal' Star Can Play Ram

Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana' film adaptation is generating significant anticipation, coupled with debate over its casting. A major point of contention has been the selection of Ranbir Kapoor for the role of Lord Ram, with some questioning his suitability following his performance in 'Animal'.

Veteran actress Dipika Chikhlia, renowned for her portrayal of Sita in the iconic television series 'Ramayan', has voiced her support for Ranbir Kapoor. During a podcast appearance, she asserted that actors should not be confined to single types of roles, highlighting that versatility is a strength.

Chikhlia emphasized that an actor capable of playing diverse characters, like those in 'Barfi!' and 'Animal', is also capable of portraying Lord Ram. She praised Kapoor's opportunity to take on such varied roles, considering it a mark of his good fortune and talent.

Ranbir Kapoor has also acknowledged the ongoing discussion surrounding his casting. He revealed that his initial reaction upon being offered the role of Lord Ram was one of self-doubt regarding his worthiness and the appropriateness of his selection.

Kapoor further noted that interpretations of Lord Ram vary, and while some viewers question his suitability, he believes sincerity is the most crucial attribute for embodying the character. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is set to release its first installment in Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027.
