Ronnie James Dio's landmark 1983 album, Holy Diver, has been reissued in a super-deluxe format, commemorating what would have been his 80th birthday. This release underscores Dio's pivotal shift from acclaimed vocalist to a definitive bandleader.

Before Holy Diver, Dio lent his voice to notable bands like Rainbow and Black Sabbath, replacing Ozzy Osbourne. However, launching his own band in 1982, with Vinny Appice on drums, marked his true autonomy. The final lineup solidified with bassist Jimmy Bain and guitarist Vivian Campbell.

The album opens with the instantly recognizable riff of "Stand Up and Shout," a blues-based power chord progression that became a totemic symbol in metal history. This riff's influence echoed across numerous songs by bands like Riot, Accept, and Iron Maiden.
