French fashion house Dior unveils its holiday campaign, a short animated film titled "Christian Dior's Night in Color," directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sylvain Chomet. The narrative, inspired by Christian Dior's bond with Marlene Dietrich, comes to life with voice performances by brand ambassador Robert Pattinson, Rihanna as The Lucky Star, and Louis Garrel as Dior.
Chomet, renowned for "The Triplets of Belleville," crafted a hand-drawn tale set before Christmas, highlighting Parisian haute couture and Dior's Hollywood connections. Designer Jonathan Anderson, who previously collaborated with Studio Ghibli at Loewe, expressed his long-standing admiration for Chomet's work. This animation project marks Dior's second this year, following a film about its Miss Dior fragrance.
The collaboration extends beyond the screen, with Dior's holiday gifting line featuring ready-to-wear, accessories, and homewares inspired by the film's scenes and characters. These elements will also adorn Dior store windows globally, bringing the magic of animation to life. Chomet expressed his hope to bring poetry to Dior through animation, tapping into people's inner child.
The film's plot sees Dior creating a dress for Dietrich, inspired by her ultimatum, "No Dior, no Dietrich!" Chomet, who initially studied fashion design, found a parallel between his drawings and Dior's sketches. He expressed excitement working with Dior, noting their shared attention to detail, despite differing operational methods.
