Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has shared a poignant aspect of his childhood, detailing how his parents made the decision to send him to live with his maternal uncle in Ludhiana when he was eleven years old. This move, intended to ensure his access to basic needs like food, shelter, and education, created an unexpected rift in his relationship with his parents, despite his enduring love and respect for them.

Recounting the experience, Dosanjh described his solitary life in a small room, with his days consisting of going to school and returning. The absence of television and the cost associated with phone calls home meant he had little contact with his family, which contributed to him becoming distant. He reflects that while his parents wished him well, this separation significantly altered his connection with them and others.
