Summary
- Diljit Dosanjh accepted a nominal Re 1 fee for his role.
- The film Satluj faced immediate takedown in India and globally.
- A legal petition seeks the film's restoration on ZEE5.

Filmmaker Honey Trehan revealed that actor Diljit Dosanjh charged a symbolic Re 1 for his role as human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra in the film Satluj. Dosanjh reportedly felt it would be shameful to accept payment for portraying Khalra. Trehan emphasized Dosanjh's integral part, stating the film would not exist without him. The film, originally titled Punjab '95, was released on ZEE5 on July 3, but was controversially removed from the platform worldwide within 48 hours of its debut.
The movie faced significant setbacks, including alleged demands for 127 cuts by the CBFC and a cancelled premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Despite its brief availability, Satluj garnered attention for its depiction of Khalra's fight against alleged fake encounters and mass cremations in Punjab during the militancy era. A public interest litigation has since been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, requesting the film's reinstatement on ZEE5 and a transparent explanation for its removal.
