DiCaprio's Thriller Nears Overtaking Denzel Washington's Crime Classic

As of November 1st, 2025, Leonardo DiCaprio's latest directorial venture, One Battle After Another, has completed five weeks in theaters and is on the verge of surpassing Denzel Washington's critically acclaimed 2006 crime thriller Inside Man at the global box office.

The $140 million production, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, has currently grossed $185.2 million worldwide, placing it among the top 20 highest-grossing films of 2025. However, to break even, the film would need to earn around $165 million more, which seems unlikely during its ongoing theatrical run.

Despite the box office challenges, One Battle After Another's strong critical reception could help offset its financial performance. The film is expected to perform well during the upcoming awards season, particularly at the Oscars and Golden Globes. Additionally, its digital release, anticipated in the second half of November 2025, could further boost its overall earnings.

Inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel Vineland, One Battle After Another follows the story of Bob Ferguson, a former member of the revolutionary group French 75, whose life is thrown into chaos when his daughter goes missing and a dangerous enemy from his past resurfaces. The film also stars Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti in pivotal roles.
