Something's Gotta Give was a blockbuster success, grossing $265 million globally. The film, written by Meyers, centered on the relationship between Keaton's character, a successful playwright, and Jack Nicholson's character, a perennial playboy. In an Instagram post following Keaton's passing on October 11, Meyers praised the actress's "magic" in the film, noting that Keaton was "fearless" and "born to be a movie star."
Meyers also expressed the personal devastation of losing a friend of almost 40 years, stating that Keaton "felt like a sister" at times and that they "mutually had" a connection that made writing for her a better experience.
