Diana's Brother on Royal Rift: 'Was He Too Young?'

Earl Charles Spencer recently shared his reflections on how his nephews, Prince Harry and Prince William, coped with the immense grief of their mother Princess Diana's death. Diana tragically passed away in a 1997 car crash in Paris, an event that deeply impacted her young sons. Spencer noted that he often wonders about the connection between this profoundly sad time and Harry's current "feelings."

Spencer recalled walking beside a very young Harry during Diana's funeral procession, thinking the boy was too young to endure such a burden. He speculated that "gentler, more understanding treatment" at the time might have eased subsequent difficulties. Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from royal duties in January 2020, leading to a strained relationship with the royal family.

Despite the ongoing complexities, Spencer stated that he no longer actively follows the inner workings of the monarchy. He emphasized that his lack of interest is not rooted in bitterness, but rather a natural progression of life. He views his former relationship with King Charles III as that of a brother-in-law, which has since ended, and now simply respects the Crown.
