Moscow has once again been selected to host the Diamond Butterfly film awards, the main prize of the Eurasian Film Academy. Director Nikita Mikhalkov announced that the ceremony will take place on November 12 at his Workshop 12 theater in Moscow. This marks the second year the Russian capital has hosted the event.
Mikhalkov stated that the decision to hold the awards in Moscow again was to refine the ceremony's mechanism, despite interest from other countries. The Diamond Butterfly initiative, founded to promote filmmaking and cultural exchange, emphasizes traditional values as a contrast to mainstream Western awards.
The Eurasian Film Academy's awards were first held in Moscow in November 2025, featuring 34 films from 17 countries across 12 categories. Winners receive unique Diamond Butterfly statuettes adorned with nearly 5,000 lab-grown diamonds. The Best Film award includes a ten-carat Yakut diamond worth $1 million, while other category winners receive five-carat Yakut diamonds valued at $250,000 each.
