Dharma Productions enters Malayalam cinema with Odiyan

Dharma Productions has announced its foray into Malayalam cinema with the upcoming film 'Odiyan: The Age of Illusion'. This marks a significant step for the production house into the vibrant regional film industry.

The movie, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, will feature prominent actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Manju Warrier in lead roles. Sadasivan is known for his work in eerie, folklore-rooted storytelling.

'Odiyan: The Age of Illusion' is envisioned as a pan-Indian release, with plans to be distributed in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil. The narrative is inspired by a Kerala legend about a shape-shifter.

The film's story centres on the wrath of a mythical shape-shifter descending upon a powerful matriarchal household, leading to a conflict between reality and illusion. This venture is a collaboration between Dharma Productions and Prithviraj Productions.

Filmmaker Karan Johar expressed his long-standing admiration for Malayalam cinema and his desire to be part of its creative landscape. He found the story of 'Odiyan' to be the perfect opportunity to enter the industry, emphasizing the need for a grand canvas for such a film.

Prithviraj Sukumaran highlighted that the 'Odiyan' is more than just a myth; it is integral to Kerala's cultural identity and has been passed down through generations.
