Dhani Harrison and Nigel Godrich's musical collaboration, Dragonflies, emerged unexpectedly when both artists were seeking a creative respite.
Harrison, previously burnt out from film and television scoring, found renewed purpose. Godrich, renowned for his work with major artists, was also stepping back from traditional production.
The project began in late 2021 when Harrison, isolated in England, reached out to Godrich. A subsequent studio session in Godrich's London studio immediately yielded positive results, fostering their creative synergy.
Drawing inspiration from past musical collaborations, they embraced an organic approach, building songs from tape loops. Godrich played drums, bass, and keyboards, while Harrison contributed guitar and vocals.
For live performances, they enlisted additional musicians, including guitarist Nick Valensi and composer-arranger David Campbell. The self-titled album, Dragonflies, was released this fall on Dark Horse Records.
Their recent live shows at Hollywood Forever Cemetery were met with enthusiasm, highlighting the contagious renewed excitement found in their collaboration.
