Anurag Kashyap's seminal film, 'Dev D,' is making a significant return to the big screen. Seventeen years after its initial release, the cult classic is scheduled for a re-release on April 24th, exclusively in select movie theaters. The film, starring Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin, and Mahie Gill, is a modern adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's renowned novel, Devdas.
Kashyap expressed his excitement for the film's return, noting its collective experience potential with Amit Trivedi's music and Rajeev Ravi's cinematography. Lead actor Abhay Deol revealed that he initially proposed the idea of a contemporary Devdas to Kashyap, aiming to critique misogyny and highlight female resilience within the narrative. Trivedi also acknowledged the film's pivotal role in boosting his career, with each song deeply integrated into the storytelling.
Kalki Koechlin reminisced about her initial nervousness regarding Hindi dialogue pronunciation and her uninhibited approach to acting during the filming. The ensemble cast also included Mahie Gill as Paro and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a memorable cameo. The film's production was overseen by Ronnie Screwvala.
