The event showcased creations from eleven metro Detroit taquerias, drawing over 1,500 attendees eager to sample the best tacos and margaritas the region offers. The competition culminated with Tacos Wuey, a taqueria from southwest Detroit known for its authentic Mexican cuisine, being crowned the winner. Chef Eddie Vargas' establishment earned the coveted title with its signature birria taco. This victory marks a significant achievement for Tacos Wuey, which opened just last summer and was previously recognized as the No. 2 Best New Restaurant in 2026. The event also recognized other culinary talents, with Tequila's of Roseville securing second place for their tacos and the title of best margarita. El Taco Dojo and Tacos Ame followed in third and fourth place, respectively, while The Taco Stand received the People's Choice award. The lively atmosphere included performances by Ballet Folklorico Moyocoyani Izel and interactions with lucha libre wrestlers, offering a full cultural experience alongside the food competition.
