Summary
- A lawsuit claims Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's film damaged deputies' reputations.
- Deputies involved in a 2016 drug bust are suing the production company.
- The suit alleges the film inaccurately portrayed officers as corrupt.

A recent lawsuit alleges that the film "The Rip," inspired by a 2016 South Florida drug bust and produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's company, Artists Equity, has unfairly tarnished the reputations of Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies. The film, released on Netflix in January, is accused of portraying the officers involved in the bust as corrupt.
Deputy Jonathan Santana, one of the officers who cracked the Miami Lakes drug case in 2016 and seized over $20 million, stated that he has faced accusations of theft since the movie's release. His lawyer, Ignacio Alvarez, asserted that the film depicted his clients negatively.
The lawsuit further contends that producers should have compensated Santana and fellow officer Jason Smith as consultants, especially since they were integral to the actual drug bust. Instead, the suit claims, a different officer, who was not involved in the operation, was consulted for the film.
