Dennis Haskins, widely recognized as the iconic Principal Richard Belding from the 1980s/90s hit show "Saved by the Bell," died from complications of Parkinson's disease. His death certificate, obtained from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, lists the neurodegenerative disorder as the primary cause.
In addition to Parkinson's, Haskins battled other health issues including depression, IBS, hypertension, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Reports suggest that in his final years, he became somewhat reclusive, residing in an assisted-living facility and limiting contact with friends and his ex-wife.
It is believed Haskins chose to isolate himself to shield others from knowledge of his Parkinson's battle. Despite his personal struggles, Haskins maintained a prolific acting career with over 100 credits, including appearances in popular series like "Mad Men" and "The New Girl," up until at least 2020.
Following the news of his passing in late September 2026, former co-stars Tiffani Thiessen, Mario Lopez, and Lark Voorhies shared touching tributes. They fondly remembered Haskins for his steady presence, kindness, and the memorable moments shared during their time on "Saved by the Bell." Haskins passed away on September 27, 2026, at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. He was 75 years old.
