Deniece Pearson, who rose to fame as the lead singer of the 1980s pop group Five Star, has shared insights into her financial life.
Five Star, dubbed 'The British Jackson 5,' achieved significant success, selling 15 million records and earning a Brit Award. During their 1980s heyday, the group played lucrative private gigs, including one for £85,000 at a UK wedding.
Pearson recalled receiving a Lamborghini Countach, valued at over £100,000, as a gift when she was 19. The family also experienced immense wealth in 1986, moving to a seven-bedroom mansion and acquiring a fleet of luxury cars.
However, the band's popularity waned around 1990, leading to the difficult decision to sell their mansion and cars as they could no longer afford that lifestyle. Pearson later moved to the US, married, and had two children. She faced financial setbacks, including the death of her brother Stedman last year from diabetes complications.
Currently, Pearson, 57, lives in Berkshire with her mother. She continues to perform at '80s revival shows, can still earn a five-figure sum for a live solo performance, and is investing in her solo album and social media presence.
Her most significant personal money mistake was buying a used Range Rover for £13,000, which proved to be problematic. She now prefers her economical Smart car, purchased for £3,000.
Pearson's financial priority is stability and supporting her family, including her son who is getting married this year. Her song royalties serve as her pension, and she plans to continue performing as long as possible. She also wishes to support causes like Great Ormond Street Hospital.
