Members of The Sam Beckman Choir in north London, who are all living with dementia, have completed an original song. The composition, titled 'A New Beginning', was created over the past year through collaboration with music and healthcare practitioner Edmund Jeffrey. Choir members contributed lyrics and ideas during weekly music sessions before entering a professional recording studio in Crouch End to finalize the track.
This project represents the fulfillment of Jeffrey's wish to guide a singing group through the entire creative process, from songwriting to professional recording. Tanya Miller from Jewish Care conceptualized the single, emphasizing the importance of self-expression for individuals with dementia. The song, which choir members described as having "real feeling" and being carefully crafted, is set for release on all streaming platforms this coming Sunday.
