Summary
- Deepika Padukone turns down high-paying films if they don't feel authentic
- Emphasizes importance of representing Indian culture proudly on global stage
- Advocates for normalizing 8-hour workdays and work-life balance

In a recent interview, Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone has emphasized the importance of authenticity in her life and career choices. The actor, who is celebrated globally as a modern Indian icon, has shared that she has turned down numerous high-paying film offers in the past if they didn't feel true to her.
Padukone explained that while money is not the only factor, she believes in being true to herself and her values. "The only non-negotiable is authenticity. Anything that doesn't feel true to me doesn't cut it. Sometimes people offer a lot of money and think that's enough, but it isn't," she said.
The actor also stressed the significance of representing Indian culture proudly on the world stage. Padukone believes that as a "global Indian," it is essential to own one's roots, culture, and heritage, rather than imitating the rest of the world. "Why are we copying what's happening elsewhere instead of leading?" she questioned.
Furthermore, Padukone addressed the ongoing debate around enforcing fixed eight-hour workdays, especially for women and new mothers, to support better work-life balance. She argued that the industry has normalized overworking, mistaking burnout for commitment. "Eight hours of work a day is enough for the human body and mind. Only when you're healthy can you give your best," she stated.
As Padukone gears up for the release of her upcoming film 'King,' co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, her commitment to authenticity and her desire to champion Indian culture on the global stage continue to inspire her fans and the industry alike.
