Debra Wilson, known for her role on MADtv, has shared her perspective on Oprah Winfrey's reaction to her impression. In a recently resurfaced 2022 interview, Wilson suggested that Winfrey, like other influential personalities, should be more open to satire and not take herself overly seriously.
Wilson, who portrayed Winfrey on MADtv from 1995 to 2003, indicated she found out that Winfrey was not pleased with the impression. This occurred around 2001, a couple of years before Wilson left the sketch comedy series.
Later, Wilson had a chance encounter with Winfrey while hosting the red carpet at the Emmy Awards. According to Wilson, fellow MADtv alum Michael McDonald called Winfrey over, and after learning about Wilson's impression, Winfrey responded politely.
MADtv, which spoofed pop culture, aired from 1995 to 2009. Wilson has since had a notable career as a voice actress in television and video games.
