Summary
- Alli Logout and Margo XS unite punk and pop for a club record.
- The EP explores shared affinities for punk volatility and pop irony.
- HARDBODY chronicles a night out with euphoria and regret.
Alli Logout, known for the band Special Interest, and rising pop producer Margo XS have collaborated on a new club record as deBasement. Their second EP, HARDBODY, eschews a simple fusion of their styles to explore shared interests in punk's volatility, pop's irony, and queer dance culture.
The EP's title track, "hardbody," defines the term as a physical state pushed to the limit. The duo utilizes rave, garage, EDM, and electro-pop elements to evoke vivid imagery of club scenes.
HARDBODY is structured like an intense night out, moving from initial confidence to euphoric highs and eventual exhaustion. Tracks like "STAY IN UR LANE" and the chart-ready "THE FIT" showcase their dynamic production and precise lyricism.
A collaboration with Nikki Nair and DJ ADHD, "CUT THE LINE" features spoken word and a narrative of paranoia, culminating in a humorous, over-the-top climax that blurs the lines between pleasure and discomfort.
