Filmmaker Réi's new horror movie, 'Death Name,' is scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, exclusively on Tubi. The film features Kevin Woo, formerly of the K-Pop group U-KISS, in a story about a young Korean American woman who delves into her past, inadvertently awakening a perilous family curse. This adds to Woo's growing filmography, following his appearance in Anderson .Paak's 'K-Pops!' movie.
Meanwhile, Réi's live-action short film, 'Shutter Bird,' has been submitted for consideration at the 98th Academy Awards. The short stars Dallas Liu and Isabella Ferreira and explores the intertwined struggles of a troubled Latina photographer and an Asian American delinquent attempting to escape their small-town existence. It's noted as a tribute to a departed friend and the Santa Ynez Valley community.
'Shutter Bird' also touches on sensitive themes, with Réi aiming to shed light on learning disabilities, mental health, and prescription addiction among young people of color. The film, visually capturing the essence of rural California, features VFX work from Basili Fly and an original score by Emmy-nominated composer Amanda Jones. 'Shutter Bird' is currently available for viewing on Vimeo.
