Death Cab for Cutie has announced their forthcoming album, "I Built You a Tower," scheduled for release on June 5. This marks the band's first LP since 2022. The album is preceded by the recently released single "Riptides," which dropped on March 16. The track confronts the profound difficulty of navigating personal struggles while the world grapples with immense tragedy and loss.
According to frontman Ben Gibbard, "Riptides" captures the paralyzing feeling when these external and internal crises intertwine. He penned much of "I Built You a Tower" during a period of intense stress, managing tours for both Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service while his personal life faced significant collapse. The LP aims to explore finding space within oneself to process grief and trauma.
Following the album's release, Death Cab for Cutie will embark on a tour spanning North America and Europe, beginning in May. This tour will feature support from artists including Jay Som and Japanese Breakfast. The band's last album, "Asphalt Meadows," released four years ago, reached No. 60 on the Billboard 200.
