DC's The Authority Project Paused Indefinitely
27 Apr
Summary
- James Gunn confirms The Authority development is on indefinite hold.
- The project's script and DCU integration were problematic.
- Booster Gold and Paradise Lost projects are still in development.

Development on James Gunn's planned adaptation of "The Authority" has been put on an indefinite hold, as confirmed by the DC Studios co-boss. Gunn revealed via Threads that the project's script was not yet adequate, and importantly, it did not align with the overarching narrative and practical considerations of the broader DC Universe.
This pause follows previous statements from Gunn, including remarks made in February 2025 and three years prior, where he expressed the project's sluggish development. Gunn had previously lauded "The Authority" for its compelling mix of antiheroes. The comic series, which debuted in 1992, originated from the remnants of StormWatch.
In more promising news for DC fans, Gunn also provided updates on other upcoming projects. The "Booster Gold" television series remains in active development, described by Gunn as a story about an imposter superhero from the future. Additionally, the "Paradise Lost" series, a prequel set on Themyscira exploring Amazonian political intrigue, is reportedly in "extreme development."
