A neglected subway underpass in Daventry, Northamptonshire, has been transformed into a colorful community art space through a unique collaboration. Renowned anonymous street artist Binty Bint joined forces with year 10 students from Parker E-ACT Academy for the project on Ashby Road.
This joint initiative between West Northamptonshire Council and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner aimed to foster community pride and reduce anti-social behavior. Prior to the artistic work, offenders from the Immediate Justice programme cleared debris and prepared the walls. The students created individual gallery-themed artworks, with Binty Bint providing professional guidance.
The revitalized subway, which had significantly deteriorated over three decades, is now described as a bright and welcoming environment showcasing local creativity. Officials believe that engaging young people in such public art projects instills a sense of ownership and respect for communal spaces.
