Born in Worcestershire in 1946, Mason's tenure in Traffic was marked by his significant contributions. He penned and performed some of the band's most enduring songs, including "Hole in My Shoe" (1967) and "Feelin' Alright?" from their self-titled 1968 album. Despite his integral role, Mason had an intermittent presence in the band.
Following his departures from Traffic, Mason embarked on a highly successful solo career and became a sought-after session musician. He contributed to Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" and the Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man." His collaborations extended to George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and a brief stint with Derek and the Dominos.
Mason also enjoyed a notable solo career, releasing 15 studio albums, with several reaching the US Top 50. His 1977 album "Let It Flow" achieved platinum status and featured the hit single "We Just Disagree." He continued to tour until 2025, retiring after a period of ill health.
