The Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazaar, a significant exhibition celebrating India's handmade heritage, is making its return to Chennai after nearly a decade. The event is scheduled to run for a week, from January 30 to February 5, at the NIFT Campus in Taramani.
This esteemed bazaar is organized by the Dastkari Haat Samiti, based in Delhi. It serves as a platform for master artisans, weavers, painters, and various craft communities from all corners of the country to display their distinctive works and skills.
The fair's inauguration is set for Friday at 5 PM, with renowned dance guru Leela Samson gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Jaya Jaitly, the founder of the Dastkari Haat Samiti, expressed that Chennai holds a special place for the exhibition due to the city's genuine appreciation for arts and the respect shown towards artisans, which she noted is often diminished in other locations.
