Dashavatar, the acclaimed Marathi suspense thriller, has made an unexpected theatrical debut in Malayalam, starting today, December 12, 2025. Following its initial release on September 12, 2025, and subsequent OTT debut on Zee5 in November 2025, the film has surprised audiences with this new linguistic venture. While the Malayalam dub is not yet available on the streaming platform, its theatrical release marks a unique resurgence.
The film delves into compelling themes, including societal challenges, the profound bond between a father and his son, and the captivating world of folk art, infused with supernatural fantasy. At its core is the Dashavatara, a traditional performance depicting the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The story centers on an aging artist, who, despite struggling with night blindness, remains steadfastly committed to his art, viewing it as a sacred duty.
His son, concerned for his father's well-being, urges him to retire. The father eventually steps away from performing when his son finds employment at a mining company. However, destiny intervenes, drawing him back to the art form he deeply cherishes. Directed by Subodh Khanolkar, the film features a notable cast including Dilip Prabhavalkar and Sidharth Menon.
