6 Mar
Summary
- Daryl Hannah criticizes a TV show's portrayal of her.
- The show allegedly misrepresented her relationship with JFK Jr.
- Hannah calls the depiction misogynistic and a narrative device.

Actress Daryl Hannah has voiced strong objections to a recent television series that dramatizes the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his relationship with Carolyn Bessette. Hannah, who was involved with Kennedy Jr. for five years, stated in a March 6 op-ed for The New York Times that the show uses her name and presents her character inaccurately. She argues the portrayal as "irritating, self-absorbed, whiny and inappropriate" was a deliberate choice to create narrative tension and establish the primary romance.
Hannah, 65, expressed concern over the dehumanizing aspect of using a real person as a mere plot device. She further highlighted a gendered element in such storytelling, noting that popular culture often diminishes one woman to elevate another. This practice, she asserted, constitutes textbook misogyny by tearing down one individual to build up another, fundamentally misrepresenting real lives for entertainment.
