19 Oct
Summary
- Audiences wear eye masks to experience music in total darkness.
- Performers move silently around the venue, creating a surround-sound effect.
- The critically-acclaimed show is now embarking on its first UK tour.
In The Dark presents an unconventional live music event where audiences surrender their sight to fully immerse themselves in sound. Attendees don eye masks, plunging the venue into absolute darkness for the duration of the performance. This setup eliminates visual distractions, allowing listeners to focus solely on the auditory experience. Thirty musicians and vocalists perform live and unamplified, their positions shifting throughout the space to create a dynamic surround-sound effect.
The production, titled HUSH, features innovative arrangements of music by artists such as Sigur Rós and Coldplay, blending contemporary and classical influences. The historic St Bartholomew the Great church in London served as a recent venue, its natural acoustics enhancing the performance. This innovative show, founded in Cambridge in 2017, has garnered critical acclaim and is now embarking on its inaugural UK tour, visiting historic venues across the country throughout autumn 2026.
Beyond HUSH, audiences can also experience PULSE, a new production with rhythmic arrangements of music by artists like Kate Bush. In The Dark is lauded as an atmospheric, unusual, and emotional alternative to typical concerts, offering a rare chance to disconnect from daily life and engage deeply with music. The experience culminates in a reveal of the performers, adding a final intriguing element.
