Dominican Dreams Take Flight on Ballet Stage

Alexander Marmolejos Durán, now a 25-year-old professional dancer, embarked on an inspiring journey from the Dominican Republic to the ballet stage. At 12, he discovered ballet, a passion he initially pursued in secret from his family, fearing their disapproval and sacrificing baseball practice. His dedication was evident even then, as he carefully maintained his single ballet outfit.

Continuing his pursuit despite financial challenges and family skepticism, Durán received crucial support from teachers and friends. A pivotal moment arrived with a scholarship to New York's Joffrey Ballet School.
